Visual Basic breaking code in multiple lines

In VB.NET, by breaking a lengthy statement to multiple lines without line-continuation character( _), you will get an error.
Dim x, y, z As Integer
x = 10
y = 20
z = x * y
Console.WriteLine("The result of multiplying " & x & " and " & y
& " is " & z & ".") 'error

This lengthy statement should be modified to :

Console.WriteLine("The result of multiplying " & x & " and " & y _
& "is " & z & ".") 'no error
