C++ is directory

One way to check whether a given file path is a directory is trying to open it by using opendir(const char*) function. If you can open it, it is a directory.
#include<iostream>
#include<dirent.h>
using namespace std;
bool is_directory(char *dname){
   DIR *di=opendir(dname); //open the directory
   if(di) return true; //can open=>return true
   else return false;//otherwise return false
   closedir(di);
   }
int main(){

  if(is_directory("D:\\test"))
    cout<<"It is a directory."<<endl;
  else
    cout<<"It is not a directory."<<endl;
system("PAUSE");
return 0;
}
