C# tutorial- Database support: Command and DataReader objects

Command and DataReader Objects

Command object represents an arbitrary Sql command to be executed on data through a connection object. It can be used to manipulate data in a table of a database. DataReader object is used to read data from the database.

Example: Read all data from tblimages table

private void getconnection(){

            OleDbCommand cmd;

            OleDbDataReader reader;

            OleDbConnection cn=new OleDbConnection();

            //Set connection string

            cn.ConnectionString="Provider=Microsoft.Jet.Oledb.4.0; Data Source="+ Application.StartupPath+ "\\dbimages.mdb";

            cn.Open();

            cmd = new OleDbCommand("Select * From tblimages", cn);

            reader = cmd.ExecuteReader();

            while(reader.Read()){

                MessageBox.Show(reader[0].ToString());

            }

        }
