Retrieve data

To retrieve data from a database file, you need to use a SELECT statement. You can use the select statement to get data from a single field(column) or the combinations of many fields. In the first example, we use the SELECT statement get data from a single field(BookID) from the database named TblBook and the next example we use the SELECT statement to get data from two fields(BookID and Title), and the last example we select data from all fields of the TblBook table.

TblBook table:
BookID PublisherID Title ISBN
B001P001 Microsoft  Access 2007 123-456-435678-9
B002P002C programming language for beginners 234-456-9876523-8
B003P003C++ programming from the ground up 345-451-890087-2


-Retrieve data from a BookID field:
SELECT field-name
FROM table-name;

Example1:
SELECT BookID
FROM TblBook

Result:
BookID
B001
B002
B003

-Retrieve data from more than one field:
SELECT field-name1,field-name2,...
FROM table-name;
Example2:
SELECT BookID,Title
FROM TblBook


Result:
BookIDTitle
B001Microsoft Access 2007
B002C programming language for beginners
B003C++ programming from the ground up

-Retrieve data from all fields:
SELECT *
FROM table-name;
Example2:
SELECT *
FROM TblBook;

Result:
BookID PublisherID Title ISBN
B001P001 Microsoft  Access 2007 123-456-435678-9
B002P002C programming language for beginners 234-456-9876523-8
B003P003C++ programming from the ground up 345-451-890087-2
