V. Create a new workbook

When you finished one work and want to continue another work that is far different from the completed work, you actually want to create a new workbook. To create a new workbook, you have three ways: open a new blank workbook, base a new workbook on an existing workbook, and base a new workbook on a template.

V.1. Open a new blank workbook

Suppose you are in Excel window.

- Click Office Button

- Click New

Make sure that under Templates, Blank and recent is selected.

- Click Create

Or you can use Keyboard Shortcut by pressing Ctrl+N

V.2. Base a new workbook on an existing workbook

Suppose you are in Excel window.

- Click Office Button

- Click New

Excel 2007 displays the New Workbook dialog box as the figure in Open a new blank workbook section.

- Click New from existing template...

- In the New from Existing Workbook dialog box, browse to drive, folder  or internet location that contains the workbook that you want to open.

- Click the workbook and then click Create New.

V.3. Base a new workbook on a template

Suppose you are in Excel window.

- Click Office Button

- Click New

Excel 2007 displays the New Workbook dialog box as the figure in Open a new blank workbook section.

- Click Installed Templates or My templates...

+ If you click Installed Templates, Excel 2007 displays all installed templates under Installed Templates as the figure:

- Double-click any template you want or click any template you intend, and then click Create.

+ If you click My templates...., Excel 2007 displays the New dialog box as the figure:

- Double-click any your template or click any your template, and then click Ok.

Note: If you have many template workbooks, Excel will display many template workbooks. As you see in the New dialog box, under My Templates tab of the figure above, you have only one template so Excel display only one. If you don't have any template workbook, Excel will display blank under My Templates tab. If you want to create your templates, follow the steps below:

- Open Ms. Excel 2007

- Organize the workbook as you want for your template

- Click Office Button

- Click Save

- In the Save as type combo box of Save as dialog box, select Excel Template (*.xltx). See the figure:
