Sum Avg Max Min Count functions

Aggregate functions include sum, avg(average), max(maximum), min(minimum), count, stDev(standard deviation), and var(variance). In this tutorial, we introduce you some aggregate functions are often used. All the examples, we use with aggregate functions, we use the data from TblProduct. The TblProduct has the following data.

VII.1. Sum

The Sum function is used to calculate the total value of a field or column in a table or query. A field or column must has a data type of number, date/time or currency. For instance, calculate total value of the SubTotal field of Query1 by category. To do so, follow a shown figure below:

VII.2. Avg

The Avg function is used to calculate the average of a field or a column that has a data type of number, data/time or currency. For example, calculate the average of the UnitPrice field of TblProduct by category. To do this task follow the figure below:

VII.3. Max

The maximum value of a field or column(number, date/time, currency data type) can be calculated by using Max function. For example, calculate the highest unit price of products. To do that, follow the figure:

VII.4. Min

The minimum value of a field or column(number, date/time, currency data type) can be calculated by using Min function. For example, calculate the lowest quantity of products that have names starting with A letter. To do that, follow the figure:

VII.5. Count

The Count function is used to count to row or record in a table or query. For example, count the products that have quantity greater than twelve.
